Has anyone else gotten the feeling that Google has forgotten about Google Calendar? I don't remember the last time there was an actual new feature. On top of that, they don't even update the page. They still have the New Features link up there, and it's been months since that was an *actual* new feature. On all the other Google Apps, that link went away after about a week. This one has been up forever. And, if any of you use GAFYD, you can see that the links on the top left corner have not been updated to include Docs and Spreadsheets.
It seems to me that Google has given up on the Calendar project and moved on... In the time that the New Features link has been up, Google thought of, designed, coded, tested, and "unbetaed" the new version of Google Groups.
I feel the same. I have been using this for only a short time, but each time I try and update an event I get a response back saying "oops can't update try again later" that has been for 3 days now. It's pretty hard to maintain a calendar with so many reminders and events that I need DAILY when I can't update it. What is going on?

I agree. I have held off fully implementing Gcal until there are more features in it. Beginning to look like my wait is in vain. Can anybody suggest a better alternative to Gcal?

Scrybe is just around the corner, should be out of beta next month, it looks like it's all that GCal should have been. http://iscrybe.com/main/index.php

Well actually there are some new features, and I think Google has been listening too the complaints in this forum. For example colour printing is now available, the days in the print view do include the date in the header, and events spanning from evening beyond midnight are not shown as 2 day events anymore....
I agree that there is a lot more to do, as many others I am desperately waiting for features like a ToDo list etc. But I am willing to give the Google folks time to improve the service, even as it is I find Gcal the best solution around...

The are tons of questions like "why Google calendar doesn't have tasks?" there... And still no sign of any official reaction... The answer is http://www.rememberthemilk.com is the best (and most reliable) web-based time management / todo service. At least for me and for now.
Try 30boxes.com. Very good calendar program with a built in to-do list, themes, reminders, buddies, sharing, public view calendars, etc. Give it a look.

Wow, Scrybe looks pretty slick! I'll have to give that a try when it's released...definitely. :-)
But yes, I'll throw in my agreement that Google seems to have seriously slowed down on the Calendar project. I don't know why, but I wish they'd get back into it. :-/

I can't even find the way to show the Calendar on my Motorola KRZR with Cingular. I have gmail but no tab for calendar ??? I know it's there because I saw it once.
I searched for Google Calendar because I thought it was a vital addition to the Google lineup. I am not interested in spreading out my micro browsing to a lot of unknown third party services. I want to hear from Google whether a micro browser version of Google Calendar is happening now . . . and how to get to it on my KRZR with Cingular.

Not that this means anything, but about 3 weeks ago, I sent an email directly to Google support asking about Calendar's future. Specifically, I asked whether Google is planning on continuing to support Calendar, so I'm don't end up depending on something that will no longer exist one day. I also asked about why the "New Features" label is still at the top, even though no new feature has been added since Nov. And I asked why I can only get reminders on 1 calendar and why some of my calendars won't display at times. And Finally, I gave them a few suggestions.
I never received a response. Like I said, that doesn't mean GCal is going anywhere, but I don't take it as a good sign. Google has always replied to my messages very promptly in the past.

I've experienced the same some days ago. I don't think they actually have all personal on designing and creating a better version of gcal ;) This sure suxx. I'll give it some more weeks and then I'll try something else, because I really need some of the features asked! I hope they will do better...

Check out this post where there is a response from last week regarding sync and other features by the GCal team. Also please not the tone I've had to use to get them to respond. Apparently that's what it takes the GCal rep to appear in these threads. A post with 16 people asking related questions does not seem to be enough.

I must say that I have lost all hope for Google Calendar. In GMail, there are times when the New Features! link is gone in a day, yet this one has been here for well over 6 months. Google's customer service has begun to start sucking. i think it's ridiculous that it took a post with profanity in it's subject to get Google's attention and actually post a response. I would think when they see this thread asking if they have forgotten about Calendar, they should at least have the decency to post a response saying "no, we haven't forgotten, we are just slacking off and don't really feel like doing anything else with it"
And they say that they can't say if they are working on a to-do list, yet they ARE able to say that they are working on syncing and secondary calendar reminders...Why are they so willing to discuss certain feature's futures, and not others?

One possible glimmer of light - if you go to this page (found in the Help by typing "Contact us" in the search box) http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/request.py?contact_type=su... you will see that a "To-Do" list is on their list. I would suggest you do contact them using the above page. The more people who nudge them, the better.
I suspect that it is taking so long because they have found that it is technically much harder than they had originally envisaged to incorporate a decent To-Do list into such a sophisticated calendar application.

I'm sorry to hear that some of you have been disheartened by our lack of new features in Google Calendar, and I appreciate your sharing your comments. I want to reassure all of you that we haven't forgotten about Google Calendar. In fact, we've been busy trying to make Google Calendar better for all of you in two big ways:
If you ever have trouble accessing Calendar, please write into us so we can help you out. While we can't personally respond to everyone's email, we do read everything you send us to make changes and improvements to the service (some you can see, others you can't).
Finally, the Feature Request section that Jeremy points to is a great way for us to evaluate what features we should work on next.
Don't tell me you are still evaluating features to implement - the Google Calendar Team is a real joke at this point! How can you still give politically BS answers when your users are clearly distressed with GCal's level of support, features and RESPONSES to feedback!
The only real loser here will be GCal when everyone migrates to something else (hint Y!) for calendaring.
This thread along (out of a hundred) has been running for 4 weeks now and it takes that long to get a reply?
I would suggest the GCal team really get their priorities straight and get back from vacation if Google wants to get on top of things in the calendaring business.

You've got to remember, this is still a *beta* project. (Says so right on the logo.) When you decide to test an incomplete project, there will be times when things don't change as quickly as you'd like.

GMail, Picasa, Picasa Web, Maps, Earth, Video, Docs & Spreadsheets, Toolbar, Page Creator, do I have to go on? All of those services are also "Beta". However, the difference between those and Google Calendar, are that they get updated every once and a while. The New Features! link in Picasa Web actually tells users about a pretty recent change, not one that happened six months ago. All of the other services don't have the New Features! link, why? Because THERE ARE NO NEW FEATURES! It's funny how Google Calendar has not had a new feature in months, yet it still has the link. Google Calendar Guide has even replied to this thread (after four weeks as as pointed out by makapav), which shows that someone at Google *has* seen these complaints. However, the damn New Features! link is STILL THERE! I admit that I only know a basic amount of HTML and Javascript, but I know for a fact that it doesn't take much to get rid two words.
